Major Dental Problems & Dentures

What dental problems can you fight?

Dental problems are of many kinds. The teeth need care. They last for as long as one’s lifetime provided they are well maintained. However, it is not always possible for everyone to do everything right with their teeth and even then there is a possibility that things may go wrong since hereditary factors too that play a role.

Over time, plaque builds, color changes, tooth starts decaying, the gum shows signs of specialized care. All this is part of life and dentists are there to help us deal with the situation. We must remember however, that it is best to adopt healthy habits early on to keep the teeth where they belong.

It has been found that periodontal disease is linked to heart diseases and strokes. It is not only dental decay that results in tooth loss but gum diseases may also cause loss in adults.

Gum diseases such as gingivitis and periodontitis are two stages of gum diseases. There is also halitosis that results in bad odor in the mouth. Plaque is deposits that form around the gums just below the surface where the gum ends. These deposits over time cause bleeding.

While there are home remedies, they may be slow to bring about the desired effect. The best habits that keep dental problems at bay are brushing twice daily with fluoridated toothpaste, flossing, and swishing a medicated liquid around the mouth twice daily.

Most of the time, adults either deal with toothache or tooth decay. These two are the most common troubles that dentists deal with. A tooth that is decayed beyond repair is best replaced. But dentists suggest tooth that is showing signs of decay to be replaced as soon as possible since other teeth surrounding it too will start decaying. Sometimes the tooth is filled to stop the process. But the fillings don’t last forever and need replacement from time to time.

The toothache is relieved with medications. The dentists may also choose an injection to help the pain reduction. Dental diseases may cause bad odor in the mouth. Keep troubles under check by visiting the dentist once annually and whenever required.

There are varieties of dentures and their prices also vary. Denture prices may range from anything $300-$5000. This disparity is the result of various factors. The higher end is however t he price of complete dentures. Partial dentures cost less. These are replacements for missing teeth and surrounding areas.
Since not everyone’s natural dentures are same, these are custom made in a laboratory. The dentist or the technician takes measurements or impressions from the mouth. They are usually flesh colored and built to fit the upper and lower gums.

How often do you replace dentures?
It depends on the condition of the denture. If it’s damaged due to wear and deterioration of the materials, it is best to get it replaced.
